If God could give His only Son to suffer and die for us, who are we not to show such love to others (not necessarily by dying!) but by doing something extraordinary. Among all the festivals and holidays on the Christian church calendar, Christmas remains the most observed and most popular. Of course, much of that popularity, especially in the West, is due to the commercial promotion of the holiday.
Christmas is a season of goodwill and businesses can initiate corporate social responsibility projects aligned with the seasonal goodwill. Family Media, on behalf of some of our partners has been distributing Family Satellite dishes to communities all over the country.
As part of our mission, which is reaching the whole of Africa with the Gospel of Christ, we have given out more than 30 satellite dishes to Hospitals and GK Prisons in almost all corners of the country, which were received with great joy.
In an interview with Family Media, a patient from one of the Coast hospitals said she had lost hope in life because everyone avoided her due to her HIV status. She felt as if she had reached the end of her life. She happened to be at a friend's house when Family TV was airing the popular live “Doctors on Call” program. The show was featuring HIV/AIDS patients who were talking about their status and this patient said she was so encouraged.
This show, she testified, gave her the will to live positively instead of feeling sorry for herself. On “Family on the Move” show last week, we highlighted a story on adoption and the response was very good. We hope that someone out there was touched by the stories and will put a smile on the face of an orphan or a needy child by visiting them this Christmas or more.
This Christmas do something differently – just like Family Media did to our prisons and hospitals – giving them something to encourage them everyday, no matter their situation. God bless you and Merry Christmas to you all.
