HOW TO BECOME EXTRAORDINARY

Have you ever been complacent about something which you know can be so much greater? God’s purpose for each of us is a lot more than ordinary. But many of us find it easy to settle for situations in which we are simply comfortable. Unwillingness to get out of our comfort zones may be due to fear, or not knowing God’s purpose for us. This is the message that Brian Houston explains wonderfully in his sermon at the Hillsong church in Sidney.
The message raises an important question about awareness, and the ways in which it can set us up to win in life. Do you understand the magnitude of God’s plans for you? Each day that passes and decision we make has a part to play in that plan. If we follow the path that God intends for us, we shall succeed for it is all in accordance with our destiny.
To be unaware about God’s purpose in our lives leads to complacency and carelessness in the things we do. Being ordinary hampers the drive and enthusiasm we will have to carry out God’s will, which requires the utmost best. God uses ordinary people to do His work, and therefore makes them extraordinary. This is shown in several instances in the Bible. Four are highlighted below:
- Abraham lived with his family when God called him out of his country.
- Sarah was barren but gave birth to Isaac in her old age.
- Joseph was a regular young man who was sold into slavery by his own brothers, but God used this situation to make him a leader in Egypt.
- Moses was a normal Hebrew man who was not confident, yet God used him to deliver the people from crushing hand of Pharaoh.
As Christians, we should take a strong stand against indifference and mediocrity. In this way, we shall make a difference by living on the forefront of God’s will. In the Bible, Jesus gave a parable about a man who stored all his wealth in a barn, only to die soon after.
