Last week, Family Media CEO Leo Slingerland handed over a cheque worth over KSH 3.9 million to Habitat for Humanity who will build over 20 permanent homes for IDPs of Maai Mahiu. The ceremony was characterized by jubilation of residents as they could see their dreams of having a roof over their heads being realized. It is a great achievement and Family Media is proud to have been part of this. Together with our partners and faithful contributors, the money was raised and the displaced have something to smile about.
The IDPs have been accustomed to lowly living standards for so long. Almost 5 years on, Family Media and partners together with organizations like Habitat have seen the plight of the suffering. Because of your generous contributions, families can be made whole again; you have really made a world of difference. The recipients could not hide their gratitude men, women and children.
A 67 year old man and grateful house recipient from the Vumilia ya Eldoret camp at Maai Mahiu had this to say to Family. ‘I’m overly delighted that you took time to remember us after we went through the traumatic time occasioned by the post election violence. It has been very hard living in tents especially when the rain came; our beddings would be drenched in water and life was impossible. Since our tents were torn, rain water always made its way in. I therefore take this chance to speak blessings to all those who gave their money towards this cause; thank you for remembering us when we were in dire need.’
