This coming Saturday we will air a movie dubbed "FANNY CROSBY" yes I know the name rings a bell. Born in 1820, Fanny Crosby did not have an easy life. As a baby, a quack doctor blinded her with his criminally harmful treatment; she lost her father when she was still a child; her only child died as a baby. These are things that would challenge anyone's faith - but Fanny Crosby was special. As a blind child, she had no opportunity to be educated, although she was remarkably intelligent and received a great deal of nurture and support from her mother and grandmother. Her life changed forever, though, when she was accepted at the newly opened New York Institute for the Blind.
There, she took advantage of her chance to shine, particularly through her poetry, and to truly make something of her life. As a student and later an instructor at the Institute, she became acquainted with many of the leading political figures of the day, including a number of Presidents. In her capacity as an advocate for the blind, she got the opportunity to address Congress, the first woman to ever do so. She left the Institute after marrying a fellow blind instructor, but this marked a beginning rather than an ending point in her life. After the age of 40, she answered her true call to turn her poetic skills to the art of hymn writing. Needless to say, she was exceedingly successful and soon came to enjoy great fame all across America. She became, in fact, one of the most important and certainly the most inspirational women of her era.
Don't miss out on this movie as the story continues. See how God can turn things into your favor and like they say 'Disability is not inability'. Enjoy your viewing.
