Why is Mother's Day so special? One may wonder. Well, folks dedicate the day for the expression of gratitude for the hardships mothers bear in bringing up a child. People come up with many ways of showing love and appreciation to their moms. Mothers are interesting and loved people. That's why "whose mother is the best?" is one of those really big questions that children often ask. We believe that our moms are better than any other mom in the whole wide world and that is why mother's day holds great significance for most of us.

Relationships between children and moms are unique; some are complex while others are simple. As teenagers, we all thought that our moms hated us whenever they refused to let us do things our way. But as we grew up we got to understand clearly that they were doing it out of love and all they wanted was a good future for us. Our mothers have always been there for us through thick and thin. Can you remember the easiest way to get into a fight back in primary school? For most of us it was mchongoano (teasing and jesting) that went too far- too far meaning when one of you mentioned the other's mother by name or implication. It was at that point that transition from game to fight occurred. I learnt that the hard way (read black-eye).

There are so many ways of celebrating Mother's Day. Only a little effort and inspiration is required for turning one's ideas into reality. So will you pay tribute to your mom - despite your differences if there are any? Are you planning a special moment for her?. Take a moment and think about your mom and yourself; what is the greatest thing that she has ever done for you? One thing is for sure; you cannot repay her for all she has done for you but there must be something to motivate you to make her feel special.
