NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO ? PRAYER CIRCLE ON RADIO 316

316 Prayer Circle programme is one of a kind. The show is designed to encourage listeners through prayer and thanksgiving. The host, Pastor Peter Karanja, prays with many of our listeners who send their prayer requests mainly via SMS line 4316 and e-mail address prayercircle@familykenya.com He also encourages people with the Living Word by assuring them that “Everything is possible for him who believes” (Mark 9:23) and “What is impossible with men is possible with God” (Luke 18:27). The show gives people an opportunity to talk about issues hurting them or affecting their lives.

316 Prayer Circle comes every evening, Monday to Friday, from 7pm to 8pm on Radio 316 . Karanja says that on top of praying for people with requests and counselling them, his greatest desire is to help them develop ‘muscles' to pray. “I don't look at prayer as ‘Aspirin' or ‘Piriton' that merely relieves pain. For me, prayers should heal, and that is why I encourage people to cultivate a culture of prayer and also learn to pray on their own,” he says. “Most of the requests are personal, usually regarding relationships, finances, jobs and health.”

Karanja says some of the cases he encounters are heart-tugging and in addition to prayers, counselling is required. “Sometimes I have to deal with a caller who is on the verge of suicide and the time available on air may not be enough for counselling. In that event, I make follow-ups after the show by calling and, if necessary, meeting the individuals personally. I recall one lady who called in, depressed and desperate after being rejected at home. She wanted to commit suicide, but I'm glad that after counselling her and inviting her to church, she was able to overcome the pain and she is doing fine today. I also derive a lot of joy when I see people coming to Christ during the programme.”

To empower the listeners in their prayer life Karanja says he has initiated a series of teachings on prayer. “The objective of these lessons is to equip people with knowledge that they can apply in their lives. I also want to encourage people to widen their scope of prayer requests and include issues of social and national concern.”

Make a date with Peter Karanja every weeknight from 7.00pm as we all cast our burdens to Jesus who cares for us.
