MEET THE PEOPLE

You may have seen him in P.C.E.A Loresho church leading the praise and worship team, on Family T.V or even in your neighbourhood but never imagined his achievements at his young age.

Waithaka Gatumia is the head of radio at Radio 316 formerly Family FM and to him God’s favour has brought him this far. He started off as a sports reporter which was only 2minutes per segment.
“I got saved when I was a little boy of 10 years after watching a play called Heavens gate and Hell’s flame at N.P.C Valley Road and I got a clear picture of what hell and heaven are like and I made a decision that I want to go to heaven by accepting Christ as my personal saviour. It has been a rough road but through God’s grace I have come this far and I have developed a personal and interesting relationship with God.” Says Waithaka

His passion for electronic media started in his childhood, he would stay in doors watching movies or listening to music and he had always wanted to reach many people with God’s message of hope and believing in Him and T.V or radio were the best modes of doing it.

After high school he left for Melbourne Australia to pursue a degree in electronic media and communication. Life there gave him a different experience in his Christian life, by seeing a church congregation with over 52 different nationalities most of whom were young all gathered to worship one God was really amazing.

“This was a totally different experience and I became so attached to the church that I spent most of my time there enjoying in God’s presence we were a congregation of over 15,000 from all walks of life and I discovered that God loves us all no matter our nationality, tribe or race we are all equal before Him.” he says
Waithaka who has worked for Family media for the last two years says his experience of working in a Christian organisation is great and one grows even more spiritually.

“Working for Family media is a good experience for me and knowing that God is doing so much to others through Radio 316 which can also be streamed in live from all corners of the world is the best thing. Though its not easy being in the industry like media where by competition is so high but what makes Radio 316 unique and different from the other gospel stations, it is the kind of sound (music) we play which is always the latest top 20 releases in the world and the fact that we are diversified and can be heard live on line in the whole world makes us the top not forgetting that all new albums or songs by international artists are always heard first on our radio. Isn’t that enough to show that we lead when it comes to gospel stations around?” he asks

According to him, Radio 316 has many big surprises for all listeners of all ages; there is a new programmes line-up for every one on the weekends and so many more.
“We are trying to keep things fresh and interesting for everyone, the old and young alike by playing them up to date music and some oldies that have never been heard on other local stations not forgetting some great sermons from the best international preachers through out the week plus the latest local and international News, we have so much in store for our listeners just keep it locked to Radio 316” he says.

Waithaka who loves cooking and eating chapati has never let the hype of being a “celebrity” get into him, he likes keeping it simple and the fact that he is the head of radio has not changed the way he relates with his colleagues.
“Being a boss is not easy because one has to be in control and when things go wrong you are the one answerable but I believe in team effort and with that I relate well with my team even though at times you have to be harsh in a professional way to get things done.”

Many young people out there believe that by accepting Christ one misses out on so many worldly pleasures but according to Waithaka who is single and searching, in Christ one lacks nothing and the joy that comes with knowing you are God’s own child just makes life more interesting and it’s for you to accept and God will transform you.

“I don’t understand why young people are wasting so much time in the worldly pleasures which will not last forever; if it’s dancing there is so much of it in God’s house I sometimes wish I got saved earlier because I have seen God doing great things that I can’t even explain life is so different from what it used to be then. There are many challenges and temptations but through God, prayers and steadfast faith I overcome. Salvation is real come and let us experience God’s fullness. What is important, having eternal life or burning forever in hell due to petty worldly pleasures? Tune in to Radio 316 or stream us live on www.radio316.net  and get to know what I am talking about.”
