God Changes People , a show on real life testimonies, is aired on Family TV every Monday at 8:00pm. The show has become many people's favorite. Why? One may want to know. Some of the stories people tell may look and sound like fairy tales. Why do we underestimate God? He is not a man to lie and He does things to glorify Himself. Some few months ago, Family Media, the bus of hope, aired a story on Family TV of a widow whose husband died of HIV & AIDS leaving her pregnant and HIV positive. Her touching story moved many viewers to tears and inspired some to openly tell their stories as well. You too can freely bless and encourage many by sharing your story on Family TV.
Joyce Mweni's heart-rending story is a taste of what to expect on God Changes People. Joyce gathered enough courage to tell millions of viewers her tale – something few people would have the guts to do. Here is her story.
Joyce is now widowed after her husband succumbed to AIDS leaving her pregnant. When her husband died, she got a rude shock and felt betrayed on being told by doctors in a Nairobi hospital that her husband had died of HIV & AIDS. He had withheld the truth all along. Immediately after his funeral the in-laws chased her out of her home in Ngong and sold the house. They told her they had nowhere to burry other AIDS victims. She had no choice but to take the children with her to her father's home in Kangundo. The news of her HIV status overwhelmed her dad who was suffering from high blood pressure. He collapsed and died with blood oozing from his mouth, nose and ears. Joyce, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, blamed herself for the death of her father, and the shock as well as guilt stressed her so much that she developed complications and almost had a miscarriage. She was rushed to hospital where her CD4 count (test used to gauge the status of HIV & AIDS patients) was found to be zero; meaning that she was not only HIV positive but now had full-blown AIDS.
At the Kenyatta National Hospital , doctors gave up on her since she was not responding to anything; for all intents and purposes, they considered her dead. In their opinion she was lost and gone forever. But in the ICU ward, Joyce heard the Lord clearly speaking to her – she was alive! When she woke up, astonished doctors in the entire hospital surrounded her to witness the resurrection of a “dead” person.
Joyce stayed in the hospital for three months recuperating after this miracle happened. Instead of rejoicing after God renewed her lease of life, a nightmare was in store for her. Upon discharge, she had nowhere to go. Her mother and brothers accused her of causing her father's death and told her never to set foot in their home again. In desperation, she tried to look for relatives who could accommodate her. She located some in the Kibera slum only to discover she wasn't welcome there either. They kicked her out too but God had not abandoned her. She met a Good Samaritan who rented a house for her and her four children. She had since given birth to a baby boy who was physically handicapped, making it even harder for her to care for him in particular. Her benefactor went a step further and introduced her to other groups, of people living with HIV & AIDS. She began reconstructing her life and from then on Joyce's life has been on the up and up.
After sharing her story on family TV, a viewer from Mombasa called Joyce and asked her to take her lame baby to a hospital in Mombasa for free treatment by an international doctor. Minutes later another call came in from another man who sent her some money for her transport to Mombasa . Today Joyce is smiling and grateful to God and Family Media. Thank you for all your financial support; it is through people like you that Family Media is able to touch souls.
