Text: Matthew 17:1-13
Topic: Self-revelation
Transfiguration simply means to be changed to God’s likeness. The long standing question among the Jews was, ‘Who is this man.’ They did not understand who he was despite God announcing about him during the baptism (Matt 3:7). Christ was transfigured so that the disciples could behold him in his glory. This event confirmed to the disciples that he was truly the son of God. For Christ himself, it was a confirmation that he is doing the will of God. As Christ’s face shone like the sun (vs.2), Moses’ face had also shone after he was with God (Ex 34:29-35). But Moses’ shown face only reflected glory, whereas Jesus brightness came from within. In the presence of the three disciples, God spoke out of the cloud to confirm that Jesus was indeed his son who shares His glory and His very nature. The glory that was natural to Christ must be combined with humiliation of the cross to redeem us from hell. How do you respond to revelation of Christ to you?
Prayer: Lord, I want to experience your glory
