“What a great show?” This is one of the most frequent comments we get from our viewers after watching Kuwa Tofauti, a youth show that airs on Family TV every Tuesday at 7:30pm. This week the youth on the show had one of the most heated debates on how they will vote during the Referendum. It was encouraging to hear most of them say they have voter's cards ready to cast their ballots for or against the proposed constitution. Most of the guests on the show said they are taking their time and will vote wisely; whether red or green is a personal choice. On the show was a young man who has thoroughly gone through the constitution and he elaborated various clauses very clearly and simply.
The featured artiste of the week was Juliani who is popularly known for his electrifying dancing moves as well as his controversial song, Pages za Bible . Some of the youth said they would vote NO, citing the Kadhi's courts and abortion clauses as their reason. Some argued that including Kadhi's courts in the constitution amounted to preferential treatment for Muslims and this would not be fair given that the Kenyan population is predominantly Christian. On the other hand, some indicated they would green and endorse the document because they feel that the constitution is providing better opportunities for the youth and addresses pertinent issues like gender inequality.
There are also fence-sitters who are lost between the two colours, RED and GREEN. They blame their indecision on the numerous confusing messages that are flying from all directions leaving them confused. This is especially so since many of them have not taken time to read through the document well. Most young people on the show agreed that the voter's card means a lot to them. However, there were some that expressed their reservations saying that they could not rule out the possibility of rigging the referendum, thus rendering their votes inconsequential.
The hosts, Jeff and Faith, asked everyone to read the constitution and understand it clearly, just like they do the Ten Commandments, so as to make an informed choice and vote wisely. Kuwa Tofauti is a very informative show targeted at the youth but suitable for everyone. It is a forum that allows people to openly express themselves on a wide range of subjects such as relationships, lifestyle, faith, careers etc.
Catch the show every Tuesday from 7:30pm and repeats on Thursdays at 3:30pm.
